Our Specialised Services

At Clearear by Holly, we offer a range of specialized services tailored to meet your unique needs. From advanced microsuction to gentle irrigation, our expert audiologist delivers top-notch care to improve your aural health.

1

Microsuction

During Microsuction, our qualified audiologist uses a high-powered microscope to visualize the ear wax. The wax is then gently removed using a specialized suction machine and a fine sterile probe.

2

Irrigation

Our Irrigation technique involves the use of an electronic machine that pumps water into the ear canal under controlled pressure. This encourages the wax to dislodge and move out of the ear canal, ensuring a gentle and effective removal process.

Microsuction

Procedure

It is performed by qualified healthcare practitioners: ENT doctors, Nurses, Audiologists and Hearing Aid Dispensers. The practitioner wears high magnification binocular microscopes to gain clear visual of the wax within the ear canal. It typically takes between 15-30 minutes. You will be seated throughout the procedure.

Benefits

  • No water is used, reducing the risk of infection

  • It can be performed in those who have a perforated eardrum; mastoid cavity and cleft palate

  • It can be used to remove foreign objects within the ear

Side Effects

  • Damage and trauma to the ear canal and eardrum (including perforation)

  • Temporary or permanent hearing loss (rare)

  • Tinnitus (ringing type noise inside the ear) or worsening of it if already experienced (rare)

  • Fainting, dizziness or vertigo may occur due to the cool air being sucked through the ear canal

  • Coughing can occur, as the nerve that supplies the throat with the coughing reflex lies close to the ear canal

Irrigation

Procedure

An angled irrigation probe is gently inserted, not too deeply, into the ear canal.

Water is pumped by the machine against the ear canal wall. As water continues to fill the ear, wax will eventually move out of the canal and into a basin which collects the flushed-out wax.

It is effective if it is performed correctly and the ear wax is not fully impacted and blocking the ear.  Some people can also find the ear irrigation procedure therapeutic.
